The situation in France on the eve of the French Revolution was worsened by the long-running fiscal crisis of the French government.Extravagant expenditures of the French court and high costs of the war against England led to over 4,5 billion francs high debt by 1789.
The basic problem of the Ancien Régime to stabilize the fiscal affairs turned out unsolvable.
